Jody Joseph: Modern Masters Super Saturated

Teaching

During a recent term, my Modern Masters class explored painting with highly saturated colour---those very bright pigments almost everyone loves, but which are challenging to tie together in a painting.  Thanks to Joan Heyerichs, one of the wonderful painters I am privileged to work with, for the impetus to explore this topic, in my own work, and in class!  The first paintings were made from set ups of brightly coloured objects, folded papers and cloth; later students tried painting anything--our studio, the view out the window--with the goal of “over-saturating” the colours they saw.
